The 100% made in Italy collection by family-run Zilio A&C showcasing products from internationally acclaimed designers
Zilio A&C, a family-run business in the historic Manzano Chair District in northeastern Italy, has been producing chairs and accessories for more than 60 years. Under the leadership of Carlo Zilio, the company continues to tap into the region’s traditions of artisan craftsmanship and know-how. Hence Zilio A&C’s products are remarkable for their attention to detail as well as their material choices.
“Durable structures make our products suitable for intensive use in public spaces such as offices, bars, restaurants and hotels, but because of their appeal they are also popular in the home environment,” explains Carlo. “The elegant designs, natural or stained wood, natural fabrics such as wool, and a warm colour palettes contribute to the coziness of both offices and home spaces.”
Here are some latest releases that would bring a welcome refresh to any interior in the new year:
Working together with London-based design practice Studio Mentsen, Zilio A&C has crafted the Leek, an elegant coat and hat stand. It harmoniously melds function, style and respect for the environment: three identical ash elements make for a versatile and timeless product. Each element, steam-curved and machined into sections, ensures stability and strength without sacrificing its sleek, minimal lines. Mentsen has also created the Bacchette, a modern reinterpretation of the classic director’s chair, which comes with either a hemp or leather backrest.
Tomoko Azumi, of TNA Design Studio, a multicultural design team based in East London, has melded traditional Japanese washi art with Scandinavian aesthetics to craft the Dove, a paper basket made of natural ash wood, which is both sturdy and lightweight. The studio also brings the René, a bike rack that accommodates a bike, helmet and jacket. Featuring a steam-curved wooden frame, the René is complemented by a fabric band that comes in four different colours and a removable metal hook and is ideal in the home or a co-working space.
Designed for diminutive spaces that need to work hard for their inhabitants, Simon Kämpfer’s June is a smart, elegant and practical wall mirror with a secret shelf and hook. Frank is a refined and lightweight but robust wall hook with a peg. And we think that the playful and colourful Woodstock coat hooks, designed by Spain’s David Dolcini, are especially charming.
