After previewing in Milan and Copenhagen this year, the official launch of Tom Dixon’s AW24 collection will take place at London Design Festival in September featuring two new modular sofa designs.
As part of its AW24 collection, renowned design studio Tom Dixon is launching two new modular sofas – a new product category for the brand. Part of the FAT and PLUMP series, the two sofas are designed to allow for multiple configurations, making them applicable to a variety of spaces and bringing added versatility into the home. Also available in over 200 different upholstery options, the system is designed for a myriad of tastes and styles.
Speaking of the FAT collection, Tom Dixon states how they felt the need for a piece that prioritised comfort. “Given its inherent modularity, we’ve often experimented with FAT by combining two loungers to create a love seat,” he reveals. “This led us to envision it as a modular system, and that’s exactly what we’ve developed.” Presented at the preview in a vibrant orange colourway, the oversized curvaceous silhouette of the sofa brings an organic charm into the home while making a striking statement. Thanks to its construction, the sofa is designed for the ever-changing needs of modern living and is intended to adapt and develop with the user – moving from space to space. “Being a fully modular system, it offers great adaptability,” Tom continues. “Its steel leg base maintains the aesthetic coherence with the rest of the range while it acts as a living island in residential homes or in expansive configurations for airports, lobbies and office breakout areas.”
The PLUMP sofa offers a more simplistic silhouette, with a low back that invites you to lounge and sink into its comfort. “The reference point is the Chesterfield, a traditional English typology that has remained a British classic for centuries,” Tom explains. “We aimed to create something reminiscent of this design in terms of proportions but with a distinct departure in appearance.” With its minimal outline adding a clean, modern touch, the soft edges allow it to blend seamlessly into both classic and contemporary interior settings. With three configurations available it also allows for some flexibility as users’ needs change and adapt.
With the sofa systems also applicable to communal workspace settings, it is allowing the brand to reach a wider audience, showcasing its variety of both style and function. The addition of the FAT work chair also delves further into the office interior sector, highlighting how residential and commercial interiors are becoming more intertwined and brands that were once focused on residential interiors can now crossover into the workplace arena. So, if you’re planning your London Design Festival schedule, be sure to pop by the brand’s King Cross showroom to try the sofas out for yourself, as well as perusing other new lighting and furniture designs on display.
