Showcased at this year’s 3DaysofDesign, Swedish design studio Form Us With Love unveiled its new modular storage system for String Furniture.
Consistently pushing the boundaries of design with a conceptual approach and thought-provoking narratives, Swedish design studio Form Us With Love once again continued to showcase its creativity with a new modular storage system designed for String Furniture. Titled Center Center, this new system is made up of perforated sheet metal boxes which can be configured and arranged in multiple ways offering a versatile and practical storage option for the workplace or home office. And, with its striking colour palette reflecting the aesthetics of the contemporary design world, it is a beautiful blend of function and form.
Originally designing the system in 2021 for their own studio requirements, Form Us With Love decided to revive it when approached by String Furniture to create a new storage solution. Now commercially available in a range of vibrant hues, the system reimagines modular storage and is designed with future-focused mentality and a modularity that fits seamlessly into String’s design sensibility. Made up of individual modules that can be reconfigured to adapt to the users’ needs as they develop, its versatility was witnessed at this year’s 3DaysofDesign in Copenhagen where the collaboration was unveiled. Allowing visitors to interact with the system, it was apparent how it could provide a range of solutions both in the workplace and at home, alluding to the way interior design across the two environments is being drawn closer together.
“With Center Center, interior designers have the freedom to customise spaces and create configurations that suit their customer’s needs and desires,” says John Löfgren and Jonas Pettersson, co-founders of Form Us With Love. “The piece was designed in response to a need for space dividing and storage and devised as a system which could be adapted, scaled up or scaled down.” Manufactured in Sweden using industrial welding and bending techniques, the system is underpinned by values of circularity and sustainability. “Our intention was to use as little material resources as possible,” explains Pettersson. “It is made from a mono-material, thin sheet metal which we have tested in waste amounts of prototypes in our studio to explore the balance between material usage vs quality. Metal is also a material with an established infrastructure for repurpose.”
Speaking of the project and the studio’s meticulous attention to detail, Bo Hellberg, the Global CMO of String Furniture, states they are very selective and there are many principles they follow when embarking on a new collaboration. “We aim for design that is instantly recognisable, a product that makes a difference through doing something different or better and that has a clever constructing and manufacturing process, as well as being produced in Sweden.” Partnering with Form Us With Love was an effortless collaboration he also comments, saying that like any good relationship they could start working on the project immediately. “There was an immediate fit,” he continues, “not just philosophically but also with regards to how the product should be produced.”
With collaboration often being the key to creating circular and sustainable products, it is clear to see how this partnership has resulted in an innovative, design-led solution. Without any compromise on aesthetics, the versatility of the system is second to none helping to close the loop not only on its production but also its journey from space to space for generations to come. Mirroring the longevity that is seen within the design and quality of all String Furniture’s products, as well as the original and iconic String® shelving system, it is great to see how the company is also working with external experts to help maintain its relevance in an ever-changing design world. “Drawing on external partners is always great as they bring in outside thinking to the company and challenge us,” concludes Hellberg. “That tension always brings a better result in the end.”
