In its first foray into the world of office furniture, Bentley Home showcased a new desk and office chair at this year’s Milan Design Week.
Two years on from the opening of its Milan atelier, Bentley Home launched a new collection of six furniture pieces at the city’s design week earlier this month including two designs for the home office, a first for the brand. Since venturing into the world of interiors in 2013 under the umbrella of Luxury Living Group, Bentley has become renowned for its luxurious approach to furniture design with superior finishes and a meticulous attention to detail ensuring its pieces, like the cars, stand out from the crowd.
With a mission to expand its design capabilities, the brand has partnered with multiple designers over the last decade and this year was no exception with different collaborations contributing to the collection on display. Set within the historic Palazzo Chiesa, the immersive installation displayed the new designs on a bed of red sand, alluding to the landscape of Salento in Southern Italy – the inspiration behind the collection and the home of Paper Factor, a collaborator of the brand.
Comprising of six designs, this new collection was conceived with renowned names such as Carlo Colombo, Federico Peri, and Francesco Forcellini. Selected for their innovative use of materials and knowledge of craft and technology, the designers worked alongside the Bentley Motors Design Team in Crewe to produce and manufacture the designs. “This new collection is characterised by a dynamism and lightness of touch,” comments Chris Cooke, Head of Bentley Design Collaborations. “It is a meeting of design minds, all of whom share a commitment to translating and elevating Bentley’s distinctive design DNA – comfort, craft, and elegance.”
Including a sofa, armchair and bed, the standout pieces for us are the Wilton Desk and Bollington Office Armchair, both designed by Francesco Forcellini. Elevating the home office with sophistication and exquisite artisanal craftsmanship, the desk exudes a grandeur which commands presence in any space. Its dual-shell profile is fitted with integrated drawers which seamlessly merge into the silhouette while the degradé finishing adds depth and drama and is reminiscent of the finish seen within the interior of a Bentley itself. Available for customisation, this really is a statement piece for the home office, especially when paired with the Bollington chair. With its angular form mirroring that of the desk, they create the perfect power couple with matching finishes and a wealth of upholstery options to choose from. Minimal in its form, yet with comfort a core element to the design, the chair’s armrests are built within the frame itself, softening the overall aesthetic as they curve away from the lateral seat section.
While such pieces certainly sit within the luxury interiors market and are an unlikely choice for many, it showcases the finesse and quality that can be achieved when a brand such as Bentley turns its hand to home office furniture design. And, for those that can afford such luxuries, the inimitable craftsmanship and superior quality means they are undoubtedly set to become heirlooms of the future.
