As the cornerstone event of London Design Festival, this year’s 100% Design came back for the 24th edition with a storm. With a prominent new focus on emerging designers, OnOffice picked out the new talent to keep your eyes on.
Atticus Durnell
This year, Atticus Durnell, a recent graduate from University for Creative Arts in Rochester, took home the 100% Design Fresh award. With a passion for creating functional yet remarkable products (pictured above), his recent addition for the event did just that – That’s Caffeine is a sustainably made floor lamp created with the use of coffee grounds and biodegradable resin.
Moe Redish
After graduating from Cass School of Design this year, Moe Redish has developed an impressive portfolio of fine wooden furniture and ceramics. For 100%, his project Slide yields a new stance on desking, providing a partially slatted top, cable management and a sliding storage system – ideal for stationary and small items.
Troo Studio
Voted Ones to Watch at Design Fresh, Troo Studio, founded by Sam Bolt and Freya Whamond, explores contemporary craft through woodworking and creates contemporary furniture for all purposes. The Bud Chair is a structural piece inspired by architectural forms – featuring a wide seat and a ribbon of wood enclosed on the backrest.
WD-DP Studio
For this year’s 100% Design, Kingston School of Art graduates Will Drye and Dom Postlethwaite from industrial design studio WD-DP, created a collection of furniture that focuses on the manufacturing process of crush bending. In the form of stools, shelves and trestles, each are designed to be low-cost, efficient and tough.
Poppy Pippin
Poppy Pippin, product design graduate from Kingston School of Art, seeks to improve cities by creating a healthier environment. At 100% Design, she showcased exterior wall tiles that encourage moss growth and improve air quality. The tiles are made from terracotta – an absorbent material that can be used on exterior walls and in public spaces.
