Beyond Buildings – Architects as Designers and Makers
From chairs and cars to homes and handbags, this talk examines collaboration and crossover in architecture and design over the past century. Considering Mackintosh’s ‘total’ approach to design, overseeing a multitude of creations far beyond just buildings, the discussion will look at how other architects since then have branched out from their field, asking ‘Should architects get more creative or should they stick to what they know best?’ The panel will include Roger Billcliffe, Mackintosh historian and author; David Nelson, head of design at Fosters + Partners; and Barbican Art Gallery curator Catherine Ince, chaired by Oliver Wainwright.
