Tales of Creativity is the theme for this year’s talks programme, exploring creativity in manufacture from various angles. PearsonLloyd‘s Luke Pearson and Tom Lloyd will conduct a lecture on 4 February titled How We Work – a lesson in the drive to keep creating. On 5 February, Residence magazine’s Hanna Nova Beatrice will chair a panel discussing how blandness can be avoided in a flooded furniture market, featuring Eckart Maise, chief design officer at Vitra and Mette Hay, design director at Hay.
Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair has fast become a highlight of the design calendar, with a consistently high calibre of exhibitors and special events representing the best new Scandinavian design (plus a minority from further afield). The show takes place from 3 to 7 February, with the main fair hosting exhibitors of design for contract and residential such as Offecct, Kvadrat, Abstracta and Wästberg; satellite events such as Greenhouse, Twelve, the Trend Exhibition and the Stockholm Design Talks programme will offer a different perspective.
Twelve
After its successful debut last year, the Twelve exhibition returns, this year with the theme of Methods. A show of 12 established Nordic designers’ work will represent various design methods, from performance to digital presentation to crowdfunding. Taking part are Alexander Lervik, whose clients include Moroso and Johanson Design; John Astbury, Folkform and Mia Cullin.

Greenhouse
Greenhouse is Stockholm’s answer to the SaloneSatellite in Milan, showing 33 young up-and-coming designers and 30 design colleges from around the world, in an exhibition designed by Note Design Studio. Look out for work by Norwegian/Danish duo Pettersen & Hein, which will present a sculpture-cum-desk formed of bold geometric shapes. Also don’t miss one-to-watch Toronto studio M-S-D-S, whose work includes Ladder Light, an unusual wall-hung lamp that casts light across a surface, made from an alluring combination of copper and leather.
