Disposable plastic cups are the blight of any environmentally conscious workplace. Glassware is fine but can be expensive to keep replacing as it breaks, and involves plenty of work to keep clean and tidy. That’s why many modern workplaces still haven’t been able to shake their plastic cup addictions, despite their best efforts.
Loliware is hoping to change that. Though there some biodegradable crockery around, none are quite as environmentally friendly as these colourful cups. That’s because Loliware is made from all natural fibres and is actually edible.
These 100% plastic-free, gluten-free, gelatin-free, BPA-free, non-GMO, all natural, non-toxic, safe, come in four flavours: yuzu, cherry, matcha, vanilla bean, as well as unflavored. Made from seaweed, organic sweeteners and flavors and colors derived from fruits and vegetables.
The idea is to use the flavoured cups to enhance drinks or desserts but the unflavoured clear glass would work in any workplace that craves the flexibility of disposable cups, without the hassle of glasswashing. If employees don’t fancy eating their cups, they are easily compostable.
The edible cups have proved so successful that they are completely sold out, but after a successful appearance in the hit TV show Shark Tank, owners Chelsea Briganti and Leigh Ann Tucker are getting ready to roll out more products including the Lolistraw – an edible straw designed to help combat plastic waste and taste delicious.
As people become increasingly concerned about disposable plastic waste, it’s becoming vital for workplaces to address their own plastic use. Can these edible cups help?
